In Nigeria, persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) face immense challenges, yet they remain one of the least recognized groups within the disability community. Many with IDD require constant care, leaving parents and caregivers to sacrifice much of their own lives to support their loved ones. With limited information and resources available for medical and social care, these families often face an overwhelming burden alone.
AIDDN was founded in May 2016 to address this gap. As a collective of parents, caregivers, professionals, and advocates, we are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals with IDD. Registered with CAC, NCPWD, and JONAPWD, AIDDN is committed to advocacy, support, and raising awareness for a more inclusive society.
We invite you to join us—whether as a parent, caregiver, professional, organization, or donor—to help us create a better future for those with IDD.
Becoming a member of AIDDN as a parent or caregiver means joining a supportive community that understands the daily struggles and triumphs of caring for someone with IDD. We provide a platform to share experiences, access resources, and receive emotional and practical support. Your membership will help empower you with knowledge, connections, and advocacy tools to give your loved ones the best possible care.
AIDDN offers an opportunity for professionals in fields like healthcare, education, social work, and law to make a real impact on the lives of people with IDD. By joining, you can contribute your expertise, collaborate on projects, and advocate for systemic improvements in IDD care and inclusion. As a professional member, you will be at the forefront of efforts to improve policies and services that affect individuals with IDD.
Organizations that align with our mission can play a pivotal role in advancing the cause of IDD advocacy. Whether you're part of a healthcare facility, educational institution, corporate entity, or NGO, becoming an organizational member allows you to collaborate with AIDDN on initiatives like awareness campaigns, corporate sponsorships, and community outreach programs. Together, we can create a wider impact for those with IDD in Nigeria.
